DECLARATION TRANSCRIPT
It is no longer news that the People’s Democratic Party, PDP will be holding her National convention on the 21st of May, 2016.
The party which has gone through turbulence waters in recent times, especially after the last General election which saw the party loosing it’s number one position to the ruling party, had her members working so assiduously to revive and bring the Party back to her feet.
It is on this note that the zoning issue comes to mind. The long awaited convention which practically follow simultaneous processes after zoning, is however, having some virile atoms of skepticism and derailment from the popular view.
Hence, it is pertinent to act now and direct the steering wheel of the Party from launching her peace into monumental disarray and impending conflict. Having zoned the various positions to respective geo-political zones, one will expect the veil of power play to vanish into the thin air and without going room or such to come into play, especially now that the party is on a new breed of inundating actionable plans that will secure it’s future come 2019.
It is worthy of note that, the religious attitude of birthing and building the template of actualization of positions at the National level , can not be given any ground to thrive because people whose hope and trust rest in the party, has relentlessly stood by the party when it was gliding into extinction. An absolute reason why godfatherism will no longer thrive.
We will therefore, not tolerate or assuage our conscience to be boxed to a corner, bulldoze or coined into a concave of few whose decisions, will negatively have adverse effect on the Party Structure. It is in this regard that we demand as follows:
A. That the zoning, having been accepted widely, should comply with its ingredients of equity and fair play.
B. background, provided the position he or she is going for falls within the armbit of the zoned areas, to campaign, contest freely and NOT such position being re-zoned in whatever form a via selection of states
C. There should not be any cunning pattern of disenfranchising any candidate that is willing to serve in whatever capacity, provided such a candidate falls within the circle of zoning and qualify to contest. This will not only decimate the image of the party but wil also contribute in destroying the fragile peace and reconciliation the Party has been busy trying to build and sustain.
D. We will not hesitate to seek for legal action as the only choice should any of the contestants be stopped or prevented or forcefully prevented on the basis of state zoning from contesting from any position that has been zoned geopolitical by the National Executive Committee.
E. We will not allow any mistake that will jeopardize the struggle of the Party’s aims and aspirations to gain ground of any sort. We are not alien to the fact that the People’s Democratic Party PDP, aside being the most popular and respected Political party in Africa will not engage in any practice that will drag it’s image into the mood of incomplete disorder.
We firmly believe in all sincerity that the Party will hearken to the resolution of this Press release and act in accordance within the confine of its constitutional responsibility.
While we hope for the best for our great Party, we implore all members of the party both old and new to keep faith with the party and remain resolute as new dawn beckons. Our struggle for a better PDP shall not be in vain.
