The business landscape in Nigeria witnesses a fundamental change for the better with the inauguration of a bilateral Chamber of Commerce between Nigeria and Norway. The Nigerian Norwegian Chamber of Commerce Ltd (NNCC) thus becomes first such bilateral chamber between an African country and Norway. With the inauguration of the Chamber, local businesses interested in finding and doing business with Norwegian counterparts would have access to a new and credible platform through the NNCC.

NNCC’s inauguration was performed in Lagos on Saturday 14th May, 2016 by His Excellency, the Ambassador of Norway to Nigeria, Rolf Kristian REE as part of the ceremonies marking the National Day of Norway on 17th May, 2016. On the occasion, Ambassador Kristian REE affirmed the strength of a relationships between Nigeria and Norway. “They are growing. Nigeria is our largest trading partner on the African continent. However, Nigeria-Norway relationship should not be reduced to profitable business opportunities only,” he said.

The mission of the Chamber resonate perfectly with the Ambassador’s aspirations to go beyond the present level of interaction to promote ethical and mutually beneficial economic, social and cultural relationships between Nigeria and Norway.

On the strength of these reciprocal expectations, the Chamber would be undertaking economic and business research, promoting business development by aiding and supporting business entities identify interest areas and partners. It would create and provide action programs designed to identify investment opportunities and put prospective partners together. The Chamber would also promote trade shows, educational, civic, social & cultural programs and fairs to foster business interaction, cultural and ethical value assimilation between business prospects.

Norway is an economically viable country, with a presumed second highest rate of PNB per capita in the world (55,6000 USD in terms of purchasing power parity). The country also holds first place in the United Nations Development Program’s human development index. Norway is also a major producer and exporter of natural gas. Oil production dominates the economy, making up nearly one quarter of the GNP. Norway’s economy relies on its natural resources and energy sources (oil, gas, hydraulic energy, forests, and minerals).

Businesses from Norway and Nigeria stand to derive immense benefits from the activities of the Chamber. Enterprises that want to see their business grow into Norway and from Norway into Nigeria may never see a better opportunity to launch such initiatives than through the platform NNCC provides.

NNCC is a registered not-for-profit company limited by guarantee of the founding members who operate in the power, oil and gas, agriculture, construction, telecommunications, IT, consultancy services and other sectors in Nigeria.
