Academic Doctors worldwide pledge to “convert knowledge into action”

Scholarly brains converge in Linthicum, Maryland for Inaugural Congress of World Association for Academic Doctors

HOUSTON TX – City of Linthicum, Maryland wore a different look June 8-10, 2017 when the World Association for Academic Doctors (WAAD) converged for their Inaugural World Conference at the BWI Airport Marriott Hotel. Participating guests, including academic professionals, business leaders, NGO leaders, researchers, and students around the world, joined WAAD representatives from various countries worldwide in a 3-day convention that ended yesterday to present information on the global perspectives that limit socio-economic development.

WAAD, a non-profit 501(c)(3) was founded by Dr. Henrietta Okoro to bring together, the vast potentials of professionals in the globe to promote excellence through quality education, advanced research, good leadership, and business ethics aimed at sustainable political, socio-economic, and scientific growth of the world.

Dr. Okoro said the group holds biennial World Congress along with its regional chapters to collaborate on problems of common interest and concern of economic, educational, cultural, and political nature. The theme of the 2017 congress is “Global Perspectives on Business, Government, and Academia.”

The event keynote speaker, Carlos Tasso Eira De Aquino, the provost of Schiller International University, delivered a remarkable speech on diversity – a topic consistent with one of the emergent themes from the conference.

During the convention, researchers presented their work regarding environmental protection; agricultural development; statistical interpretation of data; diversity empowerment; incorporation of management and leadership practices, and advancement of innovative research, scholarship, and education.

In the project facilitated by Dr. Liz Young and Dr. Margaret Vianna, a common theme of interest that permeated each presentation was effective strategies to convert knowledge into action through creative and innovative approaches to promote world peace. Emergent themes from the conference, according to Dr Young centered on work workplace diversity, discovering opportunities in education, optimizing research and scholarship, and creating strategies that promote economic growth.

Dr. Vianna said that emergent themes related to matters of agricultural and environmental practices; government and non-government groups; communication barriers; leadership; and technological challenges are areas that might be expounded, to provide effective apparatus for a better society.

WAAD’s membership is geographically dispersed covering North America, South America, East Africa, and West Africa. The just concluded congress saw representatives from United States, Brazil, Uganda, and Nigeria. Other were Cameroon, India, Turkey, Pakistan, and Ghana.

The Association through the intellectual support of the members and piloting of initiatives contributes to the socio-economic advancement of local and international communities. Dr. Okoro said that “Part of our mission is to support quality education, financial literacy, research, and community development initiatives.”

The Association has also contributed to academic research and professional development by piloting and publishing the International Journal of Leadership Education and Business Studies in fall 2015.
